I love to travel in wild mountains and deserts.  I began to photograph these places in order to communicate my experiences to my family, who live far away.  I gradually realized that photographing was in itself as rewarding as simply traveling.

My travels are both athletic and contemplative.  I often return from my regular trips feeling emotionally renewed and physically sore.  I carry a minimum of equipment, and try to approach the land on its own terms.  When the weather is cold, I am cold, too; when there is rain, I am wet.

I am trying to break down the illusion of separateness from my world.  When I am successful, my heart is full of joy and gratitude.  I try to create photographs that express these deep feelings of unity I feel with the wild places in which I travel.
